Daarop inspringend bood het symposium Hart voor de Praktijk het toneel aan professor Jens H\u00e4ggstr\u00f6m (DVM, PhD, Professor, Dipl ECVIM-CA (cardiology), Professor of Internal Medicine, small animals, Department of Clinical Sciences, SLU, Sweden).<\/p>\n<p>Professor H\u00e4ggstr\u00f6m is naast Professor Adrian Boswood (RVC Professor of Veterinary Cardiology) en Professor Sonya Gordon (Texas A&amp;M University College of Veterinary Medicine &amp; Biomedical Sciences) een van de hoofdonderzoekers geweest in de omvangrijke EPIC studie, waarin het effect van pimobendan werd onderzocht in honden met cardiomegalie als gevolg van preklinische mitralisklep degeneratie.<\/p>\n<p>Myxomateuze mitralisklep degeneratie is een aandoening waarbij de atrioventriculaire klep in de linker harthelft verdikt raakt. Als gevolg van deze veranderingen treedt insuffici\u00ebntie van de hartklep op, waardoor bij contraheren van het ventrikel bloed vanuit het linker ventrikel het linker atrium in stroomt.
