Omdat de schildklierhormonen een effect hebben op alle orgaansystemen in het lichaam, kunnen vanuit al deze orgaansystemen symptomen ontstaan. De variatie in klinische beelden waarmee een hond met hypothyreo\u00efdie kan worden aangeboden is dan ook bijzonder groot, hetgeen lastig kan zijn bij het diagnosticeren van deze aandoening.
